Euler diagrams represent relationships between sets, including intersection, containment, and disjointness. These diagrams have become the foundations of various visual languages and have notably facilitated  the modelling of, and logical reasoning about, complex systems. Over the years, they have been extensively used in areas such as biosciences, business, criminology and national security to intuitively visualize relationships and relative cardinalities of sets.  This widespread adoption has allowed analysis of complex collections of data.

The workshop will cover all aspects of Euler diagram research, including, but not limited to:

  • Theoretical Advances:
          - drawability
          - layouts
          - logic
          - reasoning
  • Software Support:
          - diagram generation
          - automated reasoning
          - data exploration
  • Real-World Applications:
          - system modelling
          - information visualization
          - education
  • Cognition and Perceptual Principles:
          - readability
          - aesthetics
          - evaluation including comparison to other representations

Recently, there have been significant advances in all of the above areas.  This workshop of peer-reviewed submissions will afford the growing Euler diagrams community the opportunity to present and discuss new research, and share multi-interdisciplinary expertise. We envisage that this will stimulate collaborations on current and future research needs. This will be the third Euler diagrams workshop (after two successful workshops in 2004 and 2005) and will again bring together researchers with diverse backgrounds, from both academia and industry including: mathematicians, computer scientists, artificial intelligence experts, information designers, visualization experts, human-computer interaction experts and users from various application areas.

CALL FOR PAPERS

Submissions are now closed, and authors of submitted papers have been notified.
We solicited submissions on the topics mentioned above, in the following forms:

  • full papers (15 pages), consisting of:
          - original research
          - surveys
  • short papers (7 pages), consisting of:
          - systems descriptions
          - software demonstrations
          - position statements
          - original research contributions

PRESENTING AT THE WORKSHOP

Speakers will be given 25 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for questions
(unless notified otherwise).

Presentations can be in Powerpoint or pdf format and may be saved on a USB flash drive. Alternatively, speakers can use their own laptop.

The computer in the presentation room will have internet access. All participants will have a temporary login to the wifi and thus, they can have internet access on their laptops. Temporary logins will be available in the welcome pack on registration. Registration will be in room KLT5 between 09:00 - 09:15.

Speakers must consult the program to check in which session they will be presenting. During the break just before their session, presenters must contact their Session Chair and check their presentation for any technical problems.

The workshop presentations will be in Keynes College, University of Kent, Canterbury, UK, room KS12. Directions and facilities are here.

PREPARING THE CAMERA READY COPY

Authors of accepted papers must take into consideration:

  • the reviewer's comments,
  • the formatting instructions on the Springer web site,
where the Latex source files (preferred) and exemplars for Word can be downloaded.

Please use the correct style files, as this will help us prepare a high-quality proceedings.
Remember that the page limit for long papers is 15 pages and that for short papers is 7 pages.

Please submit via EasyChair a zip file with the following 4 files on or before May 25, 2012:

  1. The final source files for your paper, including any non-standard fonts.
  2. A final PDF corresponding exactly to the final source files specified in (1).
  3. The copyright form, signed by one author on behalf of all authors of the paper.
Please submit a digitally signed form or a scan of your signed form.
  4. A plain text file, containing the following information:
          - The name and e-mail address of the contact author who proof checked the paper,
          - A suggestion for an abbreviated running head (if appropriate),
          - Information about the correct representation of authors' names (if necessary).

Submit via EasyChair.
